The Grind
Do you love Fridays but hate that the only way to get to one is to go through a Monday? Do you need to be in another part of the country but hate to travel? Do you love a manicured lawn but hate mowing the grass?
Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. I’m sure we would all agree to that. There are times when we just need to grind, to plow our way through the boring, the mundane, and even the unpleasant in order to take the prize.
Then there are other times when we live with the grind with no prize in sight.
How long have we lived with the broken process? When will we find a way to fire the unhappy and unprofitable customer? When will we start leveraging technology? When will we get everyone in the boat rowing to the same cadence?
Sometimes we live with the grind because there aren’t enough resources or we can’t control external events or it’s just too difficult. BUT… we can at least create a plan for the remedy.
We can build a timeline and discuss what it will take to put us on the path of resolution. Isn’t this the first step anyway? One thing is certain, in the absence of a plan, broken remains broken or becomes more broken. And that’s no prize at all.
