We all have a list of go-to books. We may even have a specific shelf that contains readings that resonate with us and just seem to provide the right guidance time and time again.

Your own bookshelves probably contain some of the same books as other peoples, but certainly some different ones as well. And I suspect that there’s no single book that sits on all of our shelves. That needs to change.

Being Mortal by Atul Gawande is a must-read for anyone who is close to someone approaching the end of his or her life, or who will one day face that circumstance personally (i.e. that’s everyone). The book focuses on whether we ask the right questions about our care. It is important material for all adults and perfect for the ‘sandwich’ generation.

The book also helps us recognize that change sometimes happens around us in a way that causes us to hardly notice.

Progress happens gradually and subtly – and we often miss opportunities to pause and ask important questions.

Great questions, asked all too infrequently.

A Bonus Business Lesson, Too
